The facsimile copies made in New Zealand did not themselves purport to be made by anyone other than Mrs Walsh and therefore were not 'false documents' under s263(1) and so not forgery; however, reproducing and causing recipients in New Zealand to act upon overseas-made forgeries satisfied the elements of uttering under s266(1)(b) (with s266(2) deeming overseas documents forged), so the Court amended 34 forgery convictions to uttering under s335 and affirmed the sentences.
