A four year starting point was appropriate because the offending combined premeditated blackmail/extortion and firearms use; substantial mitigation amounting to 48% for domestic abuse, caregiving duties, remorse and bail restrictions plus a further 25% for an early guilty plea reduced the nominal sentence to 19 months, and the appropriate form of punishment balancing denunciation/deterrence with rehabilitation and childcare obligations was nine and a half months' home detention.
