The High Court held the trial judge's starting point for the firearms offence was within the available range but that the additional six month uplift for the appellant's prior convictions and offending while on bail was excessive; that uplift should be reduced to three months; the discount for personal circumstances should be increased from five percent to ten percent (in addition to the 25 percent guilty plea discount); and that home detention was inappropriate given seriousness, risk of harm and the need for denunciation and deterrence.
