The Court held the trial judge's directions on intoxication and inferences were conventional and did not mislead the jury, so the conviction stands; on sentence the offending warranted a nine year starting point, from which one year was deducted for inevitable deportation and three months for five months of 24-hour electronically monitored bail, resulting in a final term of seven years and nine months with a concurrent six month term for common assault.
