Any error in excluding the proposed character evidence was immaterial because the judge gave a good character direction that conveyed to the jury the applicant had no relevant previous convictions and the excluded evidence would have risked prejudicial cross-examination; therefore no miscarriage of justice arose and leave to appeal is denied.
