For the purposes of cl 14 (and related cls 15 and 17) of Schedule 1 to the Accident Compensation Act 2001 a 'household family member' requires a familial connection (eg spouse, partner, child, parent or other near relative or those encompassed by family-member definitions in relevant statutes); a non-related cohabiting carer, however close or long-standing the personal relationship, is not a family member and therefore not a household family member; consequently the District Court erred in finding that Mr George was a household family member.
