SOLICITOR-GENERAL v NEWSROOM NZ LIMITED [2021] NZHC 1034

- Court
- High Court
The court awarded costs to the Solicitor-General because Newsroom proceeded to publish after written warning, engaged in conduct potentially amounting to contempt and an offence under s 11B(6) of the Family Court Act 1980, the publications clearly contained identifying information and caused a significant invasion of vulnerable childrens' privacy, and Newsroom's limited editing offers did not address the core problems; consequently the public interest exception to costs did not apply and costs follow the event.
