Having assessed gravity (approx NZ$330,000 laundered over four months, direct involvement in transfers) the appropriate starting point was fixed at two years six months, reduced modestly by two months for prior good character and further by 15% for a late guilty plea to produce an effective term of about 1 year 11 months, which the Court then commuted to 11 months' home detention as the least restrictive appropriate outcome given first offender status, suitable address and Crown non‑opposition.
