Leave to appeal was refused because the applicant could not show a question of general or public importance warranting final determination: the judge had erred in principle by basing his Reynolds balancing on a defamatory meaning beyond those found by the jury, the Court of Appeal was correct to reverse, and several proposed grounds were either academic or not raised below and thus not suitable for exceptional leave.
