The sentence of three and a half years on charge 5 was unlawful because it exceeded the statutory maximum for an offence under s29A Cap.212; on a fresh approach the appropriate sentence for possession of corrosive fluid as charged is 18 months imprisonment with 12 months to run consecutively to the other unchallenged two-year sentences, producing a total sentence of three years. Counsel must ensure the court does not exceed statutory maxima.
