The appeal against the three-year theft sentence was dismissed on its merits; however the concurrent six-month imprisonments for six counts of giving false information to a pawnbroker were unlawful because the maximum statutory penalty is a fine (Cap.166 s31(2)), so those sentences were set aside and replaced with absolute discharges without affecting the lawful three-year term.
