Material arithmetic error in the trial judge's valuation of the net estate required intervention on appeal; the correct net estate valuation materially reduced the estate available for dependants and justified reducing the lump sum award. In the special factual circumstances no discount for private company shares was applied, but the award was adjusted downward to reflect corrected estate size and the applicant's needs, producing a substituted lump sum of HKD 5,498,800 and restoration of the original costs nisi order.
