The proviso in s82(2)(a) limiting aggregate consecutive sentences to seven years applies only where the sentences are imposed by the District Court on the same occasion; where the same judge imposes sentences in separate proceedings/occasions (separate charge sheets/sittings) the proviso does not apply. Because the judge sentenced the appellant on three separate occasions and correctly applied sentencing principles (including totality and plea discounts at each sitting), there was no jurisdictional invalidity or unfairness and the appeal was dismissed.
