For importation of approximately 1.962 kg of methamphetamine the appropriate starting point is eight years' imprisonment given quantity and the defendant's lesser but important role; no separate uplift was applied for participation in an organised criminal group because those facts were subsumed into the importation offending; a 15% discount was applied for the guilty plea and a further 15% for personal background and early rehabilitation (total 30%), producing an effective sentence of five years and seven months' imprisonment; concurrent sentences were ordered for the remaining charge.
