The produced warrant demonstrated a lawful basis for the applicant's detention and there was no direct challenge to its validity; sovereignty arguments previously rejected do not assist; accordingly the habeas corpus application was properly dismissed and the statutory criteria for leave to appeal were not met.

The applicant's sovereignty‑based challenge was legally insufficient; the respondent established lawful detention by producing the warrant of commitment and conviction, and because a conviction cannot be questioned in habeas corpus proceedings the application was dismissed.
