Applying s.3 MPPO and appellate guidance, the court adjusted the wife's claimed budget to a reasonable interim budget (HK$50,000/month) based on marital standard of living and the respondent's demonstrated means (dividends, credit card and rental payments), ordered backdating from 1 July 2013 with credit for sums already paid, and awarded costs to the wife to be taxed if not agreed.

The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal because the trial judge's exercise of discretion was within the generous ambit of reasonable disagreement: his valuations and treatment of the husband's assets (trusts, companies, options, properties) were rational and supported by evidence; there was no legal power to award interest on unpaid instalments before they became due; the costs orders and the overall capital/income division provided fair and adequate provision for the wife and children in all the circumstances, so intervention was not justified.
