Having regard to the defendant's limited role as a catcher, the quantity imported (2.81 kg), and applicable authorities, the appropriate starting point was 14.5 years; a guilty plea discount of 2 years 11 months was applied together with further mitigation credits (total 1 year 1 month) for good character, foreign national disadvantage and gambling treatment; no credit for remorse where defendant denied knowledge; resulting sentence 10 years 6 months imprisonment with a minimum term under s86 of 40% (4 years 1 month).
